The cherry on top of my Today

Filed under: Managing Editor — managingmom @ 11:33 pm

It’s not as if I need one more thing to do, but as a working mom (and aren’t ALL moms “working” moms?) my guilt often gets the better of me and I am obliged to pile one more item on my already filled-to-the-brink plate.

Sure, I can decorate for my son’s preschool party on the same day I help organize a company luncheon, interview a potential new staff writer and conference call with a business owner about how we can locally publicize his national product launch.

All of those things are easy. But then there’s this blog …

As Today Newspapers makes an attempt to enter the blog era (albeit more than a day late of the trend), I am compelled to post something worthwhile. I have no idea where to start, so I’ll start with the “now.”

In spite of our dubbing it “Spring Break Day” here at the office — special thanks to Duncanville Subway owner Allen Conley for the dee-lish-ous luncheon grub, btw — it’s cold, rainy and windy outside. My home and my Hubby beckon. My son, as is quite frequently the case, is at my feet, making the best of an afternoon stuck with mom at the office.

Which brings me to why I’ve been with this office for 13 years — Today Newspapers is nothing if not family friendly. I am truly blessed to have grown here: Professionally from writer to editor to manager; and personally, from single to married to mom.

And as much as I’ve grappled with whether I should be at home full-time for my son, I am compelled to continue to juggle the job and family. Because, well, Today Newspapers is also my home and my family. I think I’d be lost without it.

So, won’t you join me as I continue finding my way? We’ll see where these postings take us. I’ll share what’s on my plate, if you’ll share what’s on yours. And, who knows? … This blog may turn out to be the cherry on top of our Today.
