Ve’re going to Pump … You Up!

Filed under: Managing Editor — managingmom @ 8:42 am

OK, so none of the young party guests get the reference, but parents of said guests just might. And it was the grown ups, afterall, having the most fun at Peter’s Pump It Up party. (Once we surpassed the potty humor, that is.)

I picked up my son’s 3-year-old friend (OK, she’s 3 years and 343 days, but who’s counting?), and steered the minivan DeSoto way. Destination? Pump It Up, for Peter’s fourth birthday party.

It was my fault, but conversation quickly deteriorated to “poop” (as it tends to do when my 4-year-old son is around) because I noted the alliteration surrounding the event we were about to attend.

Me: “Peter’s Pump It Up Party! P-P-P!”

Them from the duo of carseats at my back: “P-P-P? Pee-pee! Eeeeheeeheeheehehe!”

Me (trying to steer the conversation out of the toilet): “We’re going to a party for Peter at Pump It Up! Lots of words that start with ‘p.’ I wonder if there will be pickles and peanut butter?”

My son: “Or peepee.” (So much for my steering abilities.)

His friend: “Or poo-poo!”

Them: “Poo-poo! Eeeeheeeheeheehehe!”

Me (feebly, again): “Or pretzels? Or pizza?”

My son: “Or poopy? Poopy’s funny!”

His friend: “Yes! I love poopy!”

Me (Really? Yes, I’m still trying.) “Or pizza! I bet there will be pizza at Peter’s Pump It Up party!”

The little friend: “Mmmm. I like pizza.”

Me (in my head voice): “Yes! Distractive success!”

My son: “Or poopy? Poopy’s funny!”

Me (with a heavy parental sigh): OK, now. That’s enough about poop. We’re almost at Peter’s Pump It Up party.

Them: “P-P-P? Pee-pee! Eeeeheeeheeheehehe!”

So, that’s how the party began for us. I wonder what conversations were in the other cars en route to Peter’s party at Pump It Up? Regardless of the childishness that may have surrounded our arrival, it’s never just the kids enjoying the area’s warehouse of inflatable fun.

At Peter’s party, in fact, the grownups outnumbered the adults two-to-one. They outbounced, outslid and outobstacle-coursed the barely-older-than-toddler birthday boy and his guests by a mile. But the group of 4-year-olds and almost 4-year-olds had a fun time, too, with only a few party potty pitstops (dare I note it?): p-p-p!

Whether you’re 4, 24 or 40-plus, you haven’t lived until you’ve Pumped It Up. And with one of the fun franchises in our own backyard, why haven’t you? Take a cue from the kids (Cedar Hill Chamber of Commerce members recently did), push off your grown up hat and pedal on over for some phun (OK, that was a stretch). But, potty jokes aside,  I p-p-promise, you’ll be p-p-pleased you did.

So, as they say at PIU, “get your jumping socks on” and get pumped!
